Confession Time

Okay. I admit it.

I spent the last 5 days reading Twilight.

Not the book. The series. Yes, that means "Breaking Dawn" too.

All that stuff you heard about it? Good, bad, ugly? All true.

I'm not sure if this is a proud fangirlish moment of revelation or a subconscious plea for help.

At any rate, expect fanart in the near future.

Didn't have a problem with the first one. There were points that I know were complete fangirlish dribble (♥ Bella ♥), but they made perfect sense in context.

Besides, Edward Cullen makes everything better. (/brainwash)

Fanart? Of Twilight? *shudder* I couldn't even get past the first five chapters of that book, and that was before it got famous and everybody hated it. I don't like vampire stories that much to start with, but that series is just...BLEH.

I was surprised at how the author took her time with the beginning of the first book. It didn't feel slow to me, but I can see how others would have that frustration. I do tend to like a lot of vampire stuff (Lost Boys, Underworld, Van Helsing, Fray, Anita Blake...) so this is kinda one more onto the pile for me.

You have a stronger stomach than I do. I read plot summaries of the novels and that was enough to convince me I shouldn't read them.

I saw fanart spoilers on Dev_art, and I asked my cousin about them before I started reading. I avoided full plot-summaries, though. I suspected for some while that I might eventually pick up one of the tomes and start reading.

I agree with the comments above -- I skimmed some of the first after hearing so damn much about them and had to hold back a big old barfy mess. I can't understand why so many people live and swear by those books. Especially after the last one. D:

I think part of the appeal (and un-appeal) of those books is the extremes of angst and wish-fulfillment that they contain. Everyone of importance in the book is essentially a stupid teenager and they make their lives as melodramatic as they are. If you are a melodramatic stupid teenager... this is a very attractive thing in a book. Even though I am not a stupid melodramatic teenager anymore, I used to be one and remember what it's like. I can tap into that younger inner self and revel in the mess that is these character's lives.

I'm not ready to live and swear by the series, but I'm ready to be more happily amused by those who do. And I'm prepared to dig a little to find the rare good fic of it that I believe is out there.

There's supposed to be a great fic on FFN, that the author (or Twilight, Stephanie Meyers?) actually reviewed, because it was that good. It's a retelling of Twilight, but in Edward's POV.

I enjoyed the first chapters of the book, before it got too whiny for me. Maybe it was because I wasn't your average melodramatic stupid teenager, but after Bella knew what Edward was, after she started to learn about his family, after she got pretty much obsessed with him- I couldn't stand it anymore ( ... )
