Summary:
What can you do when you fall in love with someone that is out of your reach, someone as distant and brilliant as the stars? Can one dare to dream? Singer, dancer, actor, newscaster, model. Idol, to put it simply. But behind Sakurai Sho’s public image is a sincere, dorky, passionate man. Few people get to see a real glimpse of the person behind the lights, except for what he chooses to display.
Friends, sure, but love? That’s impossible, according to the intelligent, beautiful and humble Kaori, a medical school student who doesn’t realize how much she can accomplish. But maybe, just maybe, she’s exactly what Sakurai Sho needs.

Part 1 ----------------------------
After a long choreography rehearsal, the five members of Arashi made their way to their final appointment in TBS studios. As they strolled through the spacious lobby, the giant screens were not broadcasting sitcoms or talk shows - they were turned to the news. Everyone in the foyer stared upwards to see the commotion.
An aftershock of 7.1 magnitude had struck Sendai. A bomb went off in Sakurai Sho’s stomach.

His mind wandered to a distinct, random, golden moment that had sat idly in the back of his memory: in order to prepare for a visiting American physician, Sho had helped Kaori brush up on her English by taking her on an ‘American’ date. That had been back when he put creativity in his efforts.
“Mm, this is delicious. What is it?” he spoke English slowly with a mouthful.
Kaori smirked from across the small table. “It is a hamburger. Would you like a fries?”
“Would you like SOME fries.” he corrected.
“Ah, hountou da… Would you like some fries?”
“Yes please.” He opened his mouth and she fed him. “Sank you.”
She shook her head and returned to Japanese. “How am I going to have a medical conversation involving burgers and fries?”
“… An obesity discussion?”
This made her laugh and she was back at ease. They finished their food and as they exited, Sho donned his ‘sick mask’ in addition to his baseball cap before slipping his hand in her soft one.
He continued pointing at various objects they passed by and tested his English prowess to Kaori’s amusement. “The traffic light is green. Let’s cross.” “I want to drive that Mercedes.” “Do you want to see that movie with me?” “That man was staring at you.”
“Eh?” She turned to search left and right in the crowd. “Why?”
He whispered in English, “Because you’re beautiful, didn't you know?”
The corners of her mouth tweaked. In the middle of the street, she pulled his mask down and kissed him - sweet and electric - before quickly pulling it back over his face…
Sho did not know how he soon ended up in the empty conference room with the others; his control shattered. With an anguished yell, he kicked the nearest trash can aside with full force. The four members stared at the man as he sank into the couch, curled up over his knees. They approached him in alarm.
“S-Sakurai-kun, nani ka…?!” Aiba began anxiously.
Sho spilled everything. For the members, it was a subtle sort of astonishment: another one of them had found what sounded like real love. Like they had always done before, Arashi rallied around him in understanding and supported him in any way they could. They even covered for him as he skipped the beginning of the meeting to make one more call.

After several hours of chaos, the police sirens and panicked cries had finally stopped. The quake had dissipated and left widespread power outages, but not too much damage (that could be distinguished from the initial rubble) otherwise. Takeo-kun had finally fallen asleep out of exhaustion; Kaori tenderly laid him down on his cot. She smoothed his fringe with a grimy hand, kissed his little forehead and went to check up on her father.
He had been knocked down in the middle of the initial pandemonium and had sprained his ankle. Even with the splint on his leg, he continued to make calls to various officials. Kaori wanted to tell him to rest but instead, she just gave him a silent embrace. He was startled for a moment, but patted her on the back. They had pulled through and survived; there would be much time in the future to discuss.
People were still at work setting their tents back up and clearing the floors, but for Kaori, it was finally time to be still. The sunrise was a light, peaceful orange when she sat on the trunk of an overturned tree and pulled out her personal cell phone. Deep down, she knew it was time to give into her heart. The phone turned on with a flash of light and she stared at the screen - she had over a dozen missed calls from none other than Sakurai Sho, at least one call each day that she had been gone. She hesitantly pressed Select and listened to the most recent voicemail.

“Kaori, if you’re listening to this… I - I know you will eventually -“
She broke down from the very beginning. The very way he said her name, as if her name itself was as precious as its person… He had been thinking of her this whole time, and she wondered how she could have ever doubted.
“-Look, I’m sorry that I couldn’t go to you, that I’m comfortable in the city while you’re out there risking your life, that I can’t protect you right now, but I promise - if you ever need someone - I’ll be there. I know I pushed you away, and I’ve regretted that every day since I walked out… D---IT Kaori, I’m asking for you to forgive me! I’m putting down my pride to beg you…! I won’t let go even if you want me to. Just believe in us again, because I know that you’re all that I want now and I’m sorry I realized it so late, and I’m sorry that I’m finally admitting it even later. Please, Kaori, p-please just be okay. Just come back. Come back safely.”
Wiping away her stream of tears, she dialed his number. It was answered almost immediately, despite the hour.
“Kaori! Thank G-you’re alright!” Sho cried hoarsely from the other end. “… Kaori? Say something, you’re worrying me.”
“Sh-Sho-kun…” she whimpered in relief.
… Kureha Nobuyuki limped over to check up on his daughter, who had gone off on her own. From a distance, he saw her tears followed by a small laugh. He marveled at her clear eyes - brighter than ever - and he understood.
------------------
The clock struck 5am, but he stood patiently as ever. Sho’s heart flew from his chest when Kaori finally emerged from the airplane terminal. She was unkempt and drained, but he didn’t care. It also didn’t matter that there were people watching. He rushed towards her and lifted her up by the waist, buried his face in her hair, cherishing what was lost and was now found. He spun her around in his strong arms.
“I missed you so much.” Kaori whispered in his ear.
He let her down to her feet, took her blooming face in his hands, and kissed her as if it were both the first and the last time.
An awkward cough reminded them that they were in public. Kaori’s father stood to the side and looked at Sho sternly. Sho bowed low, but Nobuyuki clapped the man on the shoulder approvingly. Perhaps these two were meant to be.
A dozen bugged-out eyes followed them as they left. Surely that hadn’t been Arashi’s Sakurai Sho showing public displays of affection with a mystery woman?! Rumors began resurfacing, but Sho and Kaori were now ready for anything. They had been through worse, and would not be separated any longer.
