Summary:
What can you do when you fall in love with someone that is out of your reach, someone as distant and brilliant as the stars?  Can one dare to dream?  Singer, dancer, actor, newscaster, model.  Idol, to put it simply.  But behind Sakurai Sho’s public image is a sincere, dorky, passionate man.  Few people get to see a real glimpse of the person behind the lights, except for what he chooses to display.

Friends, sure, but love?  That’s impossible, according to the intelligent, beautiful and humble Kaori, a medical school student who doesn’t realize how much she can accomplish.  But maybe, just maybe, she’s exactly what Sakurai Sho needs.

Out of the pack of personnel stepped Sakurai Sho, perfectly capable of stopping Kaori’s breath as always.  She took a deep breath, about to speak up, when the makeup artist blocked her and began applying powder all over her face.

A brief second look of surprise betrayed the man’s otherwise professional, gracious demeanor.  He hadn’t expected to be interviewing her of all people.  Since their last meeting Sho had tried to believe that he was indifferent, but now he couldn’t help but smile to himself.  From the corner of his eye he watched Kaori stand awkwardly, eyes closed tight as her face was buffed up with foundation.

Fate kept sticking her right in front of him, but was it too late?  Had they already used up all their chances?

----

“Minna-san, ohaiyo gozaimasu!” Kaori called out as she stepped into the room.

“Ohaiyo gozaimasu, Kureha-sensei~!” the hospital wing of young children echoed cheerfully.  In only a matter of days, they had grown fond of their newest doctor.

“Please welcome Sakurai Sho-san, he is here from News Zero!”

All the kids jabbered in excitement - they knew exactly who he was.

The cameras followed Kaori and Sho as she introduced him to patients and performed examinations.  Sho asked all sorts of questions and showed genuine interest and concern about their conditions.  Somehow, their animosity slid away to make room for their growing hearts.  Together they lightly teased, played around with, and just tried to put smiles on the children’s faces.

After rounds they sat down in the office for the one-on-one interview portion.  As the cameramen were readjusting their equipment, Kaori and Sho stole a brief private moment.

“How are you feeling so far?” Sho whispered, leaning in across the small space.

“Like a deer in headlights.” Kaori chuckled.  Sho’s presence did however help quite a bit to steady her nerves.  “I’m so unprepared for this.”

“You’re doing just fine.” he reassured.  “But I’m warning you now; I have some tough questions in store.”

“Mou…~”

----

“… One final thought, sensei.”

“Hai.”

“All these kids being seriously sick…  How do you manage to stay positive in this sort of heavy atmosphere?  You seem to show the brighter side of things with your patients.”

“… That is very true, it can be very sad at times.”  Images of Masaru-kun and the other children at their worst flashed through her head.  “But those moments only motivate me to do my best for them.  I imagine it’s similar for you too, Sakurai-san, as an idol.  Even if I’m in a bad mood that day, I feel like it is my responsibility to give them confidence.  I try to keep a happy face on for my patients so that they feel energized to fight for their health.  A lot of their outcome is determined by their states of mind, ne…  Even though many might not, seeing at least some of them get better makes me very hopeful.”

“-That’s a wrap!  Otsukaresama deshita!” the producer called out abruptly.  Staff members immediately began to pack up, as if leaving as quickly as they had come.

Kaori and Sho both stood up as well, but they dawdled.  Each of these chance meetings of theirs felt so teasing, merely a taste of something beautiful that never quite came full circle.  With all these people around, they couldn’t let anything show, either.

“Before you go, Sakurai-san,” Kaori started.  “Can I ask a favor of you?”

----

Masaru gasped when he saw none other than Arashi’s Sakurai Sho walk into his hospital room.

“Domo, Masaru-kun!  Sensei said that I should meet one of her favorite patients.” Sho smiled goofily behind the sterile mask.  “May I come in?”

“D-dozo.” the boy stuttered.  “Ichirou Masaru desu…”

From the other side of the window, Kaori couldn’t hear their conversation but as she looked on, she saw Masaru-kun’s face brighten behind his bruised eyes.  She said a silent prayer for him, and that was about all she could do.  She was even very grateful for Sho’s booming laughter.

I know this one was kind of non-eventful, but I promise that the next one will be good!  This is just build-up.
