Love So Sweet [an Ohno Satoshi love story] - Chapter 40, part 2

Jun 27, 2010 20:46

Ohno patiently sat at the table as Rina prepared a quick omelette for him - he hadn’t eaten anything since lunch.  As she worked at the stove, flipping the pan now and then, Ohno observed that something in her movements was more mature and confident, more independent but in a good way.  Now it felt like they were somehow on the same stage in life, something brilliantly promising, but stable.

Rina spun back around with a steaming hot omelette on a plate.  She proudly set it down in front of him.

“Itadakimasu~”  After the very first mouthful, he beamed.  “Umai!”

The clock on the microwave read 1:10am.  Rina hadn’t realized it had gotten so late.  She sank down in a chair and rest her head against her arm, finally feeling how much energy the day had drained.

“You know, Ohno-kun, it’s really late…” she mused.  “I don’t think you should - head back right now.  It’s sketchy at this hour, especially if you don’t know your way around.”

“Eh?”

“You - you could stay over, tonight.” she said bashfully.  “I mean, you could have the couch.  And I have some big t-shirts you can wear…”

As Ohno was a very quick clothing changer, he was done in a matter of seconds and came out of the bathroom.  The place was all silent and empty.  Where had she gone?  Ohno softly crept around, checking the sofa and behind the kitchen counter, but she wasn’t there.  Then, his gaze turned upwards to the raised “second story” platform and his eyes widened.  Rina’s long black hair cascaded down her smooth bare back as she was turned away from him, changing.  She moved gracefully.  Ohno’s burning eyes trailed the fluid curves of her waist and hips -- then he stopped himself and quickly averted his stares to the TV.  Yes, that was a good idea.  He turned the television on and tried to distract himself.

Rina returned downstairs in her PJ’s.  Now even when she was in these baggy clothes, Ohno thought to himself how pretty she was.

Since she didn’t have much time to watch TV, Rina admitted, “I don’t get cable, so I don’t know if there’ll be anything good on at this hour…”

Ohno shrugged and patted the spot next to him and so she plopped herself on the couch.  Even though the strangest thing was on air - moving, talking muffins versus vicious cupcakes in a claymation wrestling match - the two stared at the screen and didn’t bother to change the channel.

“Nani kore…?” Ohno chuckled.  Just as dubiously amused, Rina smirked and shook her head.

Which side would win, hearty and humble or decorative and sweet?  As the animated desserts battled it out, sprinkles and crumbs flying and icing oozing every which way, Ohno and Rina found themselves somehow, naturally, cuddled together without inhibitions.  Eyes nearly glazed over and brains hardly processing the slightly unsettling events on screen, they watched a macho whole grain muffin declaring victory over the cupcake team.

As the program ended and transitioned into a Snuggie infomercial, Ohno’s eyes finally drooped closed; his head slumped heavily on Rina’s shoulder.  This couch to her was way too small for both of them to sleep on, so she started to stand up, but Ohno’s arms snaked around her tighter and (consciously, most likely) he nuzzled into her chest.  Rina smacked his shoulder and he grumbled sleepily.  She smirked to herself and gently pried herself free.  Tenderly looking after this child-like man, she pulled his legs up and draped a blanket over him.  He looked so cute and serene when he slept.  Rina then crept up to her own bed, snuggled into the soft sheets and dreamt contently.

The following morning, Rina awoke to the familiar sounds of the city revving up for another busy work day.  She quietly tread downstairs.  Outside the windows of her apartment, a truck delivering crates of groceries to the Greek restaurant across the street, a trim businessman was heading out the door in a suit and tie, and an early morning jogger determinedly pressed forward.  Wondering vaguely whether the night before had been an illusion, Rina crept over to the couch.  Indeed, there was her own Ohno Satoshi in the flesh and splayed out in the craziest position, one arm draped over the back of the couch, one arm curled around a pillow, one leg falling over the edge and the other tangled in the blanket.  He breathed deeply with his mouth wide open and slack.

A sudden racket, a car alarm from outside, blared and startled Ohno awake - his whole body jerked and his eyes widened in the most hilariously startled expression.

Rina laughed out loud.  “Good morning, sleepy head.”

Groaning lowly and stretching out his lean muscles, he pouted at her laughter of his rude awakening.  He sluggishly gestured for her to come closer.  Suddenly, his arms shot out; he pulled her down and rubbed the rough stubble on his chin in her cheek.  Rina squealed with mirth and squirmed away; Ohno sprang up mischievously and ran after her, chasing her around the loft in his boxers and making much ruckus in that early hour.

Dodging around a lamp, Ohno caught Rina around the waist and twirled her around.  When they finally composed themselves, Ohno smiled and kissed her on the forehead, saving her from morning breath.

“Rina-chan, I have to go now.”

“Eh, so early?”

“Nn.  There’s a video conference scheduled with the rest of Arashi.” he explained.  “But I’ll stop by again, later today.  I promise.”  This time around, instead of merely trusting in it, he was going to make sure that she knew how he felt through his actions - because finally, he realized she was worth fighting for.

I have no idea where that cupcake/muffin thing came from, but it somehow felt necessary.... 0_o  I had hoped that things would move along faster but it didn't happen this time, so sorry if you don't like this pace!
