SPOILERS for issue 1 under the cuts!

Back in August, when Urru's cover for the first issue was released, one poster on whedonesque came very, very close to guessing what the deal with the dragon was going to be. I decided to copy&paste from the original post, which you can find here (6th comment down):

I think it's going to turn out that the dragon is one of Angel's old buddies from when Buffy sent him to hell:

DRAGON: RWWWARRRRRHHHHHHHHH! (fire-breathing) RWAAAAAHAHHH...huh? Angel? Is that you, man?

ANGEL: Growktar? Long time no see! What are you up to, you old so-and-so?

DRAGON: Oh, you know how it goes - a little of this, a little subcontracting. The same old story. Hey, you got these Wolfram guys up on the wrong side of the bed, eh? I mean, they are *pissed* at you, my friend.

ANGEL: We've kinda been enemies for the last 5 years, give or take an episode. How much are they paying you?

DRAGON: Barely enough to cover my fire expenses, and NO per diem! But whattaya gonna do? Times are tough, no matter what dimension you're workin'.

ANGEL: Tell ya what... give me and my friends a hand with this army of darkness, and I can make it worth your while.

DRAGON: For you, Angel baby? You gave me a place to crash when my missus kicked me out, and you wrote that recommendation letter for my kid so's he could get into Advanced Melting Academy! A dragon doesn't forget his friends... one slightly toasted evil army, comin' up!

Awesome cover.

Then yesterday I was pondering the whole 'LA in hell' situation, and the way the demons are running the place, and remembered this:

LINDSEY: You can't beat 'em.
ANGEL: Maybe they're not there to be beat. Maybe they're there to be fought. Maybe fighting them is what makes human beings so remarkably strong.
LINDSEY: You're not talking about the kind of strength human beings have. This is not about coveting your neighbor's ass, your buddy's job, the last Mallomar in the box. You're talking about fighting flesh and something that passes for blood demons with enormous power, and they will mow you down.
ANGEL: Maybe... but I keep thinking that once this world was theirs and now it's not.
[...]
LINDSEY: This is gonna be a circus. I mean, win or lose, you're about to pick the nastiest fight since mankind drop-kicked the last demon out of this dimension.

And:

GUARDIAN: Forged there, it was put to use right here...to kill the last pure demon that walked upon the Earth. The rest were already driven under.

And of course:

GILES: This world is older than any of you know. Contrary to popular mythology, it did not begin as a paradise. For untold eons demons walked the Earth. They made it their home, their... their Hell. But in time they lost their purchase on this reality. The way was made for mortal animals, for, for man. All that remains of the old ones are vestiges, certain magicks, certain creatures.

So, my thought was this: LA-in-hell is pretty much things put back to how they were in the beginning. Demons reign, humans hide/are enslaved. But we know that in the past humans won - that they kicked the demons out. Of course they created a Champion to help them - the Slayer - but I'm sure she didn't do it all on her own. To quote Anya, who echoes Angel's words from further up:

ANYA: And yet, here's the thing. When it's something that really matters, they fight. I mean, they're lame morons for fighting, but they do. They never... never quit. So I guess I will keep fighting, too.

Could that be the story we will be getting? How humanity (+ assorted Champions) take hell back from the demons?

ETA: Figured I could also add my other thought, although it is very crack-tastic: What if Dru was Gunn's Sire? I mean W&H found her once... (and I can't see Spike or Angel turning him. Are there any other interesting vampires - *eyes widen* OMG!What if it was Harmony????? *prays*)
