I've just done a read-a-thon, reading the entire story, and I really love it. The plot is nice and original and the character voices are very strong. I like the relationships you've set up here (I always want to read Spike acting as uncle to Connor stories, and I love the reunions between Buffy and Xander and Willow especially), too.

Fantastic chapter! I totally didn't see the decoy Buffy thing coming, and even though she obviously made the wrong decision, the "You don't even know my name" line kind of broke my heart for her.

Oh, and I was going to mention how much I loved Buffy's letter last chapter. That was exactly what Spike needed to hear, and I'm so glad she finally brought herself to say write it.

I'm very invested in this story, and I can't wait to read more!

Fantastic chapter! I totally didn't see the decoy Buffy thing coming, and even though she obviously made the wrong decision, the "You don't even know my name" line kind of broke my heart for her.

This chapter was so important and complicated, it went through numerous shifts in my head before I just went for it. The only constant was the Decoy revealing herself while Buffy lay on the floor, beaten down, and that one line. That line was extremely important so I'm really happy it resonated.

Spike and Connor are just such a wonderful pairing. It's all about family, right? I think one of the most rewarding things for me is seeing people enjoying reading about Connor. Because I really do think this is how he is. This is who he's become once we see him in Origin AtS S5 and in After the Fall. Connor is cool.

I'm very invested in this story, and I can't wait to read more!

Oh, sneaky decoy! It's a little sad, but I think the decoy thing is probably the most interesting bit to come out of season 8 (and not just for the TGIQ retcon), so I like seeing different versions of them get fleshed out in fic.

Also, now that I'm (relatively) settled and life seems to be back to normal, if you'd like me to take a gander at betaing, I'd be happy to.

I don't, really. (Sidebar: Did you know that if you google "decoy Buffy fics," TYSK is the first thing that comes up?) Most of the time, she seems to crop up in Spuffy fics, and the decoy is just there for a brief misunderstanding that ends up with Spike tracking down the real Buffy. I wrote one, but I kinda hesitate to rec it because I just reread it recently and there's so much I'd change, lol. (It's When in Rome, and if you read it, read the commentary, too, so I don't look as bad.)

LOL! Bah - I doubt you could look bad. It's so interesting how Chapter 3 of When In Rome tackles the torture aspect. What is it about decoys and torture? All that deception, methinks. I noticed in the comments though your discussion about the truth spell, how it makes it too easy. I think I was trying to use it here to go against reader's expectations - because a truth spell should make it more easy. But here it does the exact opposite.
