Review: Buffy Season 9.02 "Freefall, Part II"

I've done my best to make this advanced review as spoiler-free as possible, but nonetheless I'm talking about an issue that won't be released till tomorrow, so reader beware!

Well, I let myself read this now I've seen the comic itself. :-) How come you got a sneak preview? *jealous*

My greatest disappointment in this area comes from the change in Xander's characterization

Maybe the writing didn't bring it out as well as it could, but I think there's still complexity there. Buffy butted her face into an extremely awkward situation between Xander and Dawn, and it's pretty obvious in hindsight that Xander was trying to play it casual because he didn't want to let on that something was wrong.

Maybe, even, he only revealed the true extent of his misery to Buffy in 9.01 because he's hiding that from Dawn. He's a clown with a painted smile...

It's true, but Xander still acted out publicly at the party. They're trying to keep it a total secret is bogus. Like, I think the writing took it too far. Xander already knows that Buffy knows. He told. Obviously he's sleeping on the couch so Dawn knows. Everyone in that scene knows. So there should've been more of an edge of bitterness. And that edge just wasn't there.
