All the universe/evolution/seed blah blah blah -- I just tune it out. It reads great as meta. Stories are born from our dark matter, but they're just stories and they have to end, etc. etc. It writes itself. But in story? Who cares? I hate plotty mcplot stuff
( ... )
"I speak Fyarl" certainly worked in hinting at what happened, but Xander is right in that it doesn't really explain it sufficiently. Which makes me think Spike is not showing all his cards because he knows something that will lead to a twist. I don't think he's dark like *ahem* some are wringing their hands in hopes of, but rather that he's being Secretive Greater Good Guy in the literal sense.
To me it's about the opposite, the fact that the plot is lame and pointless drags down the character interaction for me.
Buffy's guilt f.e. fails because the story behind it is so stupid to begin with that the emotion becomes empty.
I don't think it's hard to construct a scenario a scenario were Spike ends up fighting the scoobies. It's not clear what any of them would want with the seed, preserve it? Destroy it? Why would one even bring that Buffy for a world saving gig any more, unless she needs to fall some portal closed?
He's still got his boots on, though. I doubt anything like that happens, though Buffy might try enticing him.
but who doesn't try to do that to escape a crippling guilt?
Buffy. She wallows in it.
(Also, the awkward transition from Buffy and Spike to Dawn and Xander.)
There are probably pages in between like local_max suggested. We get no intro page either and the cuts between Buffy/Spike to Dawn/Xander to Angel and back again are random and abrupt.
She does both: fights and wallows. Not how she initially wallows though. That is the overriding urge. That is what's real. She tries to justify a second later, but it doesn't stick. Wallowing overtakes her. So again, it's in character for me. Also considering that this entire season is premised upon Buffy disconnecting from her own humanity.
Yes, I agree with local_max about there probably being more pages, though I'm not 100% convinced of that and won't be too surprised if it's just some awkward writing here. We've had enough hints that it could get awkward in execution.
Yeah, but I really can't think of Buffy ever trying to justify things. Choke it down, try to find a way to make it better, sure. But I read things a little differently and think Buffy's heart getting figuratively ripped out in The Long Road Home will come up again. :P
Did you read my most recent post about Lessons and Season 7? Buffy dismisses the ghosts of the people she's responsible for killing very easily. She does that. People do that. Seems natural to me that she's trying to justify herself as still a good guy and not the bringer of world annihilation. That in itself is reason enough to do it. Buffy is used to handling being responsible for people's deaths--but destroying the world? She's never had to face that before. Buffy doesn't destroy the world--she saves it. Of course she would try to justify her self image against this dissonance.
Oh, whatever. Don't even pretend you didn't know that we were all sitting around thinking, "I wonder what Emmie thinks about the preview! Maybe she'll post soon!" :p
The Buffy and Spike interaction has basically turned me into a flaily thing. It's SO THEM. I might die of happy!
The exposition is clunky, but that's because I still feel like there's just too much plot going on. It all feels bulky, you know?
I'm hoping it's Xander who bites it because if Dawn dies? I will go BALLISTIC.
Oh, Angel. *sigh*
Spike might actually be playing the secretive-for-the-greater-good role that Angel aspired to and failed abysmally at in Season 8.
I just want to flail and flail and then flail some more about Buffy and Spike! Snark! Intimate teasing! Buffy smiling! The body language that shows how perfectly comfortable they are with each other. *loves*
Yeah, the plot/exposition is very bulky and it sadly lacks the grace of "death is your gift"/"it's always got to be blood".

I really don't think Dawn is going to die which makes me more convinced it's Xander. He's not my favorite character, but if he dies, I will be sobbing because I do care for him and he's grown into a really wonderful person. :(
I was so happy after I read these preview pages. I might have actually squeed a little. It's THEM! My two that are the two! Gosh I love them. Spike is just perfect in his ability to say it like it is and cut to the gooey, snarky center

It could be as simple as -vampire. Joss loves his metaphors. Buffy+vampire=badness

Spike reclining on the bed, the unmade bed.

Interesting.
Basically: HOPE!

Aw! I know some other people are guessing it'll be Giles who dies, but I just don't know.

I feel the beginnings of rage lapping at my insides just thinking about it. No. Just, NO.
And no to Xander's death too. Which I agree with Emmie is the more likely scenario - and one that will leave me a complete wreck.

~Interesting~ thoughts about the exposition. I'll have to reread it.
I love his boots - which, being buckled up to his knees tells me he didn't step out of them any time recently. ;)
Haha, well Buffy did just come out of the shower fully dressed. Who's to say?
Xander and Dawn - they're the obvious set-up here, but to what end?
Pain. I'm worried about Xander.
