I think my most original comment other than the "OMG THIS IS SO F-ING GOOD WHY'D YOU BREAK MY HEART?!!?" reaction most people would have after reading this is that I imagine Buffy's smile in the last scene is the exact smile she has at the end of Chosen: this is the same realization she came to at the end of the canonical series, and I think that, other than achieving the goal of a story with romantic love without sexual expression of love (which you did phenomenally well, btw), is that Buffy's character goes through the same arc she did in season 7, and comes to the same conclusion, although by different means.
that concluding realization about Spike, love, and Buffy herself is why I feel the comics are entirely unnecessary and completely self-indulgent on Joss' part, but that opinion changes on a bi-weekly basis, or with monthly hormonal fluctuations, so don't quote me on this.
And I demand a sequel. Yeah. With a happy ending. Don't you have a schmoop bingo card to fill, just like everyone else

LOL! I ♥ you.

You know, I'm so glad you imagined her smiling. Her happiness is bittersweet but also so happy she can't contain it, the grief giving birth to the happiness. This is one of those moments where I'm gratified to know I didn't have to tell she was smiling in order to show. It's a great compliment. Thank you. (A few people have told me it's very easy to visualize my stories, that they fit very well into canon. Maybe that's a part of it, too ( ... )
