Hello!
Thanks to the lovely
ladyofthelog, I was able to reformat my computer. Spent most of last night downloading drivers and trying to get my wireless internet to work, but finally success! So that's a plus. Still bogged down in jobhunting, though, and when I tried to go out yesterday my brakes were out (I need to get more brake fluid, I think, I hope

Psst: The War of 1812 was less about "the return of the oppressor" and more about the US deciding to stab Britain in the back during her fight for survival against Napoleon and make an unprovoked land-grab for Canada. At least in my history books, possibly not in yours. :-p
I'm thinking the big moral of S8 is going to be "It's great that you have a grand plan to change the world, but even if you're doing it for an indisputably good cause (feminism, overthrowing tyranny, etc) you can't let yourself be blinded to the human cost of what you're doing, or Bad Things will result."
We've seen it with Angel and the Twilight revelation, assuming that he honestly believed that creating a new universe would be a good thing; but it parallels and mirrors and contrasts the longer-term plot we've been reading all along with Buffy and her leadership of the Slayer Army.
And finally:

Definitely agree that being blind to the human cost is the Bad--becoming so devoted to a cause that you lose touch with the greater importance of humanity.

It's pretty much my attempt at a feminist spin on a chivalric epic.
THIS IS WHY I LOVE YOU. And I'm so pleased that you're cranking out fic! I haven't been able to actually write anything over the last several days (I've been having a meltdown instead! Isn't that exciting?), so yeah: it's gonna be some time before I write you birthday fic, but IT WILL HAPPEN. It's just gonna be...stealthy, surprise birthday fic that pops out of nowhere when you least expect it.
I'm sure your insights into S8 are wonderfully insightful (heh), so I'll come back and read them when I can bring myself to do it (S8 angst is not good for me right now). But let me just say this: if they kill off Dawn, I'm'a be PISSED.
But hopefully that won't happen! Back to happy thoughts! Like all your lovely gifts! Yay!
I'm so glad you're bouncing back and feeling better! Yay! Have a happy Buffy icon!

Feminist spin on chivalry-->this is why we're buds. ♥
No worries about the S8ness. I kinda don't think Dawn is going to die, but a lot of people feel it's been foreshadowed. I'm going to be so pissed if it does happen.
*hugs*
I am doing much better, hon, thank you!

I'm soooo looking forward to the next chapter of TYSK and your new fic for Seasonal Spuffy.
I think Joss can do better than having Dawn die to restore the dawn.
One of PTB mentioned in an interview (or Q&As) that they plan to explore Xander and Dawn's relationship further in season 9, so I think Dawn's not a goner. I also remember somebody saying that they plan to deal with Simone in season 9 - so, apparently, they won't do a complete reset.
Then again, Joss can come up with something completely unexpected...
