[Action, aka some sort of vague attempt at explaining my absence]
Some weeks had passed since the failed attack against the Last Battalion.  True to his word, the boy had stayed and assisted with the damage to the city, but in all honesty, there really wasn't much to do.  It looked a bit worse than it actually was -- The Battalion, for all their ( Read more... )

It had taken a while for Nanoha to manage to escape from under the watchful eyes of her caretakers, but escape she had. The girl was determined to get back to practicing her magic, even if it meant that she had to disobey orders. She needed to get stronger - not just to avoid the fate that had befallen her at the hands of Millennium, but to capture more Jewel Seeds as well.

She was heading out to a little field near Figaro where hopefully she wouldn't be found, when she sensed some fairly powerful magic being worked. Curious, she began to run faster, hoping to see who else had decided to come here.

...and then she stopped in her tracks as a bolt of lightning pierced the sky to hit a tree about fifty feet in front of her. Nanoha stood, looking at the tree, rather impressed.

"I'm thinking there's a difference between the lightning I can call from the skies and the lightning that the rod can shoot. I'm not exactly sure what it is, though . . . " Both hands clasped around the rod, Ivan lifted it above his head and cried out -- The heavens responded with a bright yellow ray of light that smashed into the ground barely ten feet in front of him. After panting for a bit, Ivan fell back into a sitting position and continued conversationally. "Anyway, that one was yellow and the other one was purple. One difference, any -- Oh?"

Turning his head to the side, Ivan immediately flushed red and scrambled up onto his feet upon seeing Nanoha. His voice, as he called out, lost most of its confidence as he slipped back into the ultra-polite persona he had carefully cultivated for the people of Figaro.

"G-Good afternoon, Miss Nanoha! Ah. What brings you to this . . . um. These parts?"

Nanoha hadn't even seen the boy there - but the moment he called out, her attention shifted to him. She waved, feeling a bit embarrassed for not having noticed him. "Oh! Ah... Ivan-kun, right? Was that... were you the one who did that just now?"

And yes, she was ignoring his question for the moment.

There was no point in denying it now. Ivan nodded slowly while the color continued to flush into his cheeks. "Um. Yes. I apologize if I startled you -- Oh! You weren't . . . You weren't hurt by the lightning, were you?"
