Patti Lu Pone? See, I bet Angela would be good, but I saw Lu Pone on Broadway and she was fantastic. Whole show was fantastic actually, so I can see why you're so addicted.
I always wrote my essays like that, and I pulled a degree out of it, so have faith!
Yeah, she's a good singer and everything, I just like the way Lansbury portrays the character a bit better. With her you get the idea of a cheerful, bustling woman who really loves Sweeney and Toby, but I felt that LuPone was darker and a bit sly on the outside.
On the other hand, you are so lucky. Stupid Australia.

Hmm... Yeah, I see your point, even though I liked the slightly dark tone to the character. I don't know if your copy is a full on stage production, or a concert, but the version I saw was a really pared down, minimalist show. It seemed to make the actors work a lot harder on their characters, and I really felt for this version of Mrs Lovett - plus, her and Sweeney had really good chemistry so they seemed like a partnership.
As for lucky, not really. I was on a trip round America, and when I got to New York, I just descended on Broadway, since it'll be the only time I ever get to go! Managed to catch Sweet Charity, Phantom and Sweeney Todd, and Sweeney blew the other two out of the water. Such a good show.

I have the concert version but I have seen the stage verson with Angela Lansbury at school a few years ago and I have the original cast album. I like the deludedness of Lansbury's Lovett - that she really believes that Sweeney loves her and treats all his complaints and ravings as childish tantrums. LuPone's interpretation seems to be worried all the time: boring! Also, her neck wobbles...
You're STILL really lucky. Before I came to Australia I saw a few West End shows, but I've never been to Broadway - my dad went to see Phantom of the Opera in West End as well only last year - WITHOUT ME, I might add. Grrness.

And don't work too hard, even if you're getting enough sleep. Workahol is bad for you. Not that I would know.
