Setting rules
1) The play field consists of a building with hotel amenities and grounds. The details will change from night to night and person to person. One character may speak of a lake, while another has never seen it. This is a dream. It changes.

2) Magic staffs the kitchens and bar area. Players may man either or both, but will have no OOC authority and only as much IC authority as other characters choose to give them. The mods won't care if people don't listen to your bartender.

3) All major changes to the grounds will either be gone by the next post, or be crafted by the moderators. If a player has a major change that they wish to make permanent it must be sent to the moderators, who will post it in a Moderator Post in the game. An updated list of what is permanent will be kept in a link.

4) There will be no in-character security force with any OOC authority. Characters may choose to act as such, but the moderators will not treat them as having any "right" to enforce in-character rules.

5) There are no official in character rules. There will be no official in character rules. Unofficial rules may be created by characters, but they will have no out of character "right" to enforce them.

6) Characters may open a shop on the second level of the hotel. However this shop will only be theirs as long as they are present on the hotel and grounds. In the event that the character visits any other world, their own or that of another person, their stock reverts to their room and the shop must be restocked.

Character Creation Rules
1) The limit for characters is 5. That is both Original and Canon characters. There is a limit of 3 of one type or the other: you may play 3 Original characters and 2 Canons, or 3 Canon and 2 Original, but not 4 or 5 Canon or Original. This is to encourage people to spread their wings a little bit.

2) This cycle there will be no dead characters. Characters may be brought in any time prior to their death, including the second before receiving the killing injury, but if they die they will not make it back into the dream. Future cycles may include the option to play dead characters; the point is to change the experience each time and stretch your writing abilities instead of falling into a rut.

3) Original Characters with Canon ties will not be dismissed out of hand. They will be considered from an Alternate Universe to the canon they are connected to unless and only unless the canon character's player chooses to contact the moderators prior to the OC's application supporting the connection. Any player attempting to godmode a canon character into a relationship of any kind will be banned.

4) Characters may not be reserved just to keep them from being played. Any player applying for characters and retiring them just to keep them from being in play will be banned.

5) There will be no gods or anthropomorphisms of concepts. Characters such as "furries", the Windows computer characters, or most of the weird Japanese anthropomorphisms will be fine. Characters such as personifications of tarot cards, the Endless, or anything created with an eye toward being on a godlike power level raise a host of situations that make them difficult to have around, however much fun they are to play.

6) If you apply for a canon character, it must contain a name, a personality, and the bones of a character history. If you want an original character, apply for one. If you want a canon character it must have enough character to be a character by itself. Third guy from the left in the group scene isn't enough.

Reset Rules
1) There will be no contact between versions of characters from different resets. When the dream ends all traces of those who came before are wiped away.

We have neither right nor desire to keep people from continuing to play those characters in their character journals, please feel free to do so. The rule only means that they cannot interact with the new cycle of people active.

2) Characters once retired or deleted will not be allowed back until after the reset.

3) Come the reset you may choose 2 of the canon characters you have played during the cycle to keep. The rest must be reapplied for. This allows other people to have a chance at playing some of them, but allows you to keep characters you love best for many cycles. They may be the same 2 constantly, or change from cycle to cycle. At the end of the cycle you send in a note to the moderators claiming your two characters. They do count toward your five character limit - you cannot stake a claim and pick up five characters for until you are ready to play your reserves.

Game Play Rules

1) People know about fictional characters. Some characters have a reasonable way to know about other characters. Find a way for your character to deal with it, it will not be considered a problem by the moderators.

2) Game-wide plots will happen at the moderator's discretion. These may be player- generated and moderator approved, or moderator created. They will never be mandatory, however the only acceptable way of dealing with a plot that does not interest you is to avoid it. You may place a notice similar to Please no mentions of (XYZ plot) in your entry post, but do not bitch about it. Some day your plot may be the one pissing people off. People proposing plots must include at least one way that a character could avoid the plot, for example "Stay inside for the week". It must be a reasonable way to avoid ("stay in your room for a week" is not reasonable), but doesn't need to be perfect.

3) Please keep smut labelled and played in character journals, even if it takes place in public areas.

4) Rape, suicide, incest, torture, and other topics that can be considered "trigger issues" are to be clearly labelled. This list is not inclusive, if you're not sure add the lable. We will expand as we must, but seriously. Play sensitively.

5) Plotting should be done primarily in the community. Out of community plots should be reconsidered with an eye toward having an in-community portion to keep the game fresh. The plotting community lifetoadream should be used for all plots. Just because you don't know how Suzi Q's big prison escape could affect the game doesn't mean someone else can't come up with an idea. If it doesn't work out that's fine, but players must make an attempt. You are here to play with others.

6) All posts are to be open posts. If you only want to play with one other person or group for reasons of time please create that post in a personal journal and post it to the community.
