This way... Padma nearly screamed. The urge to march up to San Gimignano and drag Blaise out of his hotel room by his ear was strong. She damn well knew he was here and yet he hadn't shown himself, not to her and not to Luna. It was insane! He and Luna were both so miserable without each other. If she thought that it would work, she'd damn well kidnap them both and lock them in a cupboard or dungeon (she knew, she just knew that one of Blaise's properties had one of those) until they regained their senses.
She Apparated from the cottage's kitchen into the Wizarding hotel's lobby. The witch who owned the place was behind the desk and merely nodded as Padma stormed past and up the stairs, banging on the door to Blaise's room. "Open up, you idiot!"
The door opened a moment later and she nearly gaped. Had she not watched Luna fading away as the months past, Blaise's appearance would have been shocking. His clothes, while perfectly tailored, were at least two sizes smaller than what he'd worn before - clearly showing just how much weight he'd lost- and there were dark circles around his eyes. Eyes that were missing that vital spark of wickedness that she was used to seeing. He was a wreck. "Oh, Blaise," she said sadly. "You've not been taking care of yourself have you?"
His tone was sarcastic, though it was clear his heart wasn't in his 'act'. "Just get inside or the whole damn village will be gossipping about me."
She was careful not to touch him as she stepped inside the room. She did, however, hurry over to the tea tray and begin preparing it, needing to keep her hands busy so that she didn't start fussing over him. Once the tea was steeping, she looked over her shoulder and asked, "Will you come to the cottage and talk to Luna?"
He shook his head. "No. She asked that I not follow her and being here is already going too far. I just needed to see her, Pad, even if she never knows I am here."
She crossed the room, laying her hand on his cheek in sisterly affection. The light slap that followed was in exasperation. "You great idiot! She is dying without you. Go to her, now! She loves you more than life itself."
He sighed, turning away from her. "She ran, nearly halfway around the world to get away from me. That isn't how you say 'I Love You' in any way, shape, or form. I came here to say goodbye on last time, Padma. I won't write any more letters or anything, I promise. I just- just had to see her with my own eyes. If she loved me she would have come home. My Mother had it correct all along. Zabini's don't deserve a happily ever after."
Padma covered her mouth with her hand, trying not to cry. This was all wrong. Insane. "No," she finally whispered, the tears falling no matter how much she tried to keep them inside. "No, you and Luna are meant to be together. Two halves of a whole. You have to believe me. Please."
He crossed the room, looking out over the town. "I believed that once, Padma. I can't hold out hope any longer. I just can't. Luna made her decision and I will respect it. The Gringotts vault I set up for the two of you will remain yours to do with as you see fit as will the cottage that Callista bought for her."
Padma was helpless to do anything but watch as he turned, pulling his wand. "You won't be bothered with me any more. Have a good life."
She fell to her knees once he'd Apparated and simply sobbed. She didn't know what to do. She had tried standing aside and letting them bumble about and that had ended disastrously. There was nothing else she could do but console Luna and hope that grief really couldn't kill someone.
