Title: I will never let you fall
Character Pairing: Luna/Blaise
Prompt: elusive
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 701
Summary: Blaise Zabini is an enigma, even to those closest to him. He also get bored very easily. Luna Lovegood is anything but boring. This one may help explain just why she had the tendency to 'show up as if by accident' in canon.
Author's Notes: Yeah, 'forget most of canon' still applies. ;) There are a handful of songs that provided a great deal of inspiration for these - ones that explained Luna's mental state (and Blaise's as well) so well that I made a playlist of them. The most important are Black Orchid, Life is Beautiful, Cold (But I'm still here) and Your Guardian Angel.

Blaise had searched the castle, even asking Greg and Tracey for help, to no avail. When Luna decided to pull into herself and disappear, she did a bang up job of it. It was times such as this that he loathed the separation they faced being in different houses. Ravenclaw Tower was the only possible place that she could be located (if one followed the rules, something he rarely did) that was officially off limits to him. Pity he had the password, just as Luna had the Slytherin one.

He glanced around the corridor, and finding it clear, he entered the Ravenclaw common room. If there was one thing he could admire about the Ravenclaws- though he wouldn't admit it aloud- it was the fact that they understood reporting him or even acknowledging his presence in their house was the last thing they should do. Of course, he'd had to hex a couple of them to get his point across, but the Ravenclaws were (on a whole) anything but slow on the uptake.

"She's upstairs."

He turned to find Padma Patil curled up with a large book on her lap, looking quite comfortable in front of the large fireplace. Her news was welcome indeed, now his only obstacle was the idiotic spell preventing boys from climbing the stairs. Though, it was easy enough to take care of. "Do I need to re-cast the spell?"

Padma shook her head. "When I realised that she was still abed, I cast it and decided to stay here until you arrived."

Blaise tipped his head at the only Ravenclaw other than Luna that he could stand to be around for any real length of time and crossed the room to the stairs that lead to the girls' dorm rooms. "Goyle and Davis are searching the grounds for her."

He heard the rustle of her skirts and knew that she would find his friends for him. Padma had a soft spot for Luna and Blaise had long ago extended his trust toward her. He knew that it was her that comforted Luna in the middle of the night when it stormed as the trip to Slytherin was too much for her.

Stepping into Luna's room, he was dismayed to find it completely empty. He returned to the common room just as Luna entered from the castle proper. Her hair was in a loose bun, held in place by her wand and her mis-matched clothing, knee length multi-coloured socks and missing shoes were enough of an indication of her mood to get him moving towards her as Padma slipped silently past, leaving them alone. He pulled her close. "You slipped past Padma."

There was gentle censure in his tone and what he was truly saying was, 'I was worried', and they both knew it.

She sighed, sliding her arms about his waist. "She didn't expect me to leave and really, no one notices me anyway, even when they are looking for me. I needed fresh air."

He kissed the top of her head. "Did you see Greg and Tracey?"

"Yes, but they didn't see me. I ran into Ginny Weasley. I think I scared her a bit."

Her dreamy tone coupled with the matter-of-fact words just brassed him off. He knew she didn't allow little things like being totally ignored get to her. So, he got angry enough for the both of them instead. It seemed to work out well. He got to hex random students and she drifted along, not letting the frequent slights bruise her feelings. "I suppose she was as lost in her own thoughts as you were in yours when you bumped into her?"

Luna giggled. "Just slightly."

Shaking his head, he asked, "What would you like to do today?"

"I'd like to look for blibbering humdingers out by the lake actually."

He stepped away enough to Accio her cloak, hat, gloves, and shoes. He was already dressed for the chilly weather, having been outside earlier. He was content to see her spirits raised and if seeing her smiling and even a bit cheerful meant spending the day on the grounds searching for a creature only she believed in, then so be it.
