This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of in my life. Lysol's hands-free household use soap pump.

Just saw the TV ad. O NOES THERE ARE GERMS ON THE SOAP PUMP WHATEVER SHALL WE DO?!

People. Please. If you are touching a soap pump it's because you're about to wash your hands. The germs on the soap pump? WASHED OFF YOUR SKIN SECONDS AFTER THEY ( Read more... )

people please, why are people stupid

lol we have exactly the same advert here under another name - it makes me crack up. OK - you touch the GERMY pump - and then wash your hands! I've been ranting about it to family and friends for weeks. HEADDESK

And yes, I agree with you, I think much of the reason people get sicker these days is that they are too sterilised. Everyone's always saying to me that "you should get anti biotics" for this and that - and why should I, when my body clears it up??

Never mind that overuse of antibiotics and germicides has been cited (I can find references if needed but too lazy atm to go hunt them up) as a significant, possibly the significant contributor to new, drug-resistant viruses/bacteria.

We're actively courting disease by trying obsessively to ward it off. Peoples' kids can't fight off basic infections because they've not been exposed to the essentially-harmless bacteria that are necessary to build their immunities.

The problem is that when we create antibiotic-resistant bacteria, because people are constantly using small amounts of antibacterial agents, Darwin gets his revenge on all of us, not just the morons.

Oh god I always thought this was the stupidest thing in the universe. And I'm 100% with you on the over-antibacterializing stuff; it's important to keep people vaccinated and immunized, but as far as basic treatable diseases are concerned, it's just as important to let kids receive exposure so that they can build stronger immune systems and antibodies. Hell, sometimes the basic diseases like cold viruses don't have vaccines anyway, so you need to build up an immunity somehow.

Kids need to play outside. In the dirt and muck and gross and ick. Covered in germs. Without getting spritzed by antibacterial shit every two minutes in case. They'll get sick less that way, because the exposure will build their immune systems such that they won't get their asses kicked by every bug that they bring home from school.

How ever did we survive our childhoods without anti-bacterial soap?!?
