Rose let out the breath she wasn’t aware she’d been holding as she slowly turned around and stared at the black spot on the wall that could have easily been her. “Go on then, kill me.” She didn’t want to die, but she certainly had no desire to prolong this. “Why’re you doing this?”
“I am armed. I will kill you. It is my purpose.”
“They’re all dead because of you!” She cried.
“They’re all dead because of us!”
Shock hit Rose, she didn’t want to consider that. But it was her fault, she’d told the Doctor that earlier, she’d cause the death of hundreds. “And now what? What’re you waiting for?”
“I feel fear.”
“What do you expect!?”
“Daleks do no fear. Must not fear!” it became agitated as he shot at the wall on either side of Rose, causing her to jump in fear and silence. “You gave me life. What else have you given me? I am contaminated!”

They all watched as Adam stepped out of the lift, into Ianto’s office, his eyes growing wide as he was suddenly thrown against a wall, the Doctor holding him up. “You were quick on your feet to leave Rose behind!” he hissed.
“I’m not the one who sealed the vault!” Adam replied.
Ianto was prepared to call Adam a little snake when suddenly the screen lit up again, and there in front of all of them stood the Dalek-and Rose-very alive.
“Open the bulkhead or Rose Tyler dies.” The Dalek demanded.
The Doctor grinned at the sight of the beautiful girl standing beside the hideous creature. “You’re alive!”
“Can’t get rid of me.” She relied softly.
“I thought you were dead.” He whispered.
“Open the bulkhead!”
“Don’t do it!” cried Rose.
“What use are emotions if you will not save the woman you love.”
Ianto’s eyes widened at the same time the Doctor did. It was as if the Doctor hadn’t realized the truth until this moment. Looking over at Ianto, the Doctor moved towards the computer, shaking his head. “I kill her once, I won’t do it again.”
Seconds later the bulkhead opened, allowing Rose and the Dalek through.
“What do we do now? Your bleeding heart, what the hell do we do?!” Demaned Van Statten angrily.
Ianto however, looked at the Doctor. “She’s safe, right?”
“I don’t know.” He whispered.
“We’ll kill it when it gets here!” Adam suggested.
“All the guns are useless, and the alien weapons are in the vaults!” Ianto snapped, getting rather sick of the little pompous moron.
“Only the catalogued ones.”
All eyes suddenly shot to Adam, who winced slightly. “I keep them around in case I have to fight my way out.”
“Yeah you in a fight, I’d pay to see that.” Muttered Ianto.
“Oi! I could do!”
“Ianto, where’s his work room?”
“I’ll take you-“ Adam began.
“I don’t want you anywhere near that creature.” The Doctor didn’t have the heart to tell Adam it was because he didn’t want to look at the little bastard anymore. Instead he and Ianto stepped into the lift and made their way to Adam’s office.

The Doctor was pulling stuff out of a crate, looking for weapons as Ianto stood there watching silently. “You know-you don’t have to waste your life on people like this.” The Doctor stated.
“No, I don’t-but someone has to protect this planet from idiots like those two.”
“Not a lot of people impress me Ianto Jones.”
“Likewise.”
The Doctor glanced up and smiled as he handed Ianto a rather large looking gun. “When this is all over, maybe you’d like to take a trip with Rose and I. The stuff out there could blow your mind.”
“Go where?”
“Anywhere.”
“I can’t-I have a life back in Cardiff.”
“Oh-come on then, let’s go save Rose.” He grabbed another gun and they made their way out of the room.
“Doctor-“ The two men paused and Ianto studied the Doctor for a moment, seriously considering him. “If I did-come with you-what would it be like?”
The Doctor grinned one of his maniac grins. “Fantastic!”

Rose stood beside the Dalek in the lift, thinking silentnly that there couldn’t be a more awkward position to be in right now. “I’m begging you, don’t kill them. You didn’t kill me.”
The Dalek’s head spun around, looking at Rose so fast she had to duck to keep from getting hit by his eye piece. “But why not? Why are you alive? My function is to kill. What am I? What am I?”
The door opened and the Dalek moved inside, where Van Statten and Adam both stood almost cowering. “Don’t move! Don’t do anything! It’s beginning to question itself.”
“Van Statten. You tortured me. Why?” The Dalek demanded moving towards Van Statten.
“I wanted to help you, I just-- I don't know, I - I was just trying to help. I thought if we could get through to you, if we could mend you-- I wanted you better, I'm sorry.” He explained pathetically as he tried to move away, shaking. “I’m so sorry! I swear! I just wanted you to talk!” He finally screamed.
“Then hear me talk now. Exterminate! Exterminate!”
Rose suddenly rushed around, standing between the Dalek and Van Statten. “Don’t do it! Don’t kill him! You don't have to do this anymore. There must be something else. Not just killing-- what else is there? What d'you want?” She all but begged.
“I want freedom.” The Dalek said looking at Rose and Van Statten.

Rose walked onto floor 01 with the Dalek, watching as it fired its beam at the ceiling, a hole formed as part of the ceiling caved in. Sunlight flooded the small area. Rose felt ecstatic for just a moment, staring up at the beauty of it. “You're out. You made it.” She whispered, smiling softly. “Never thought I’d see the sunlight again.”
“How... does... it... feel?”
Rose watched with stunned and horrified awe as the armor began to open, underneath it all was a mutated and disgusting creature. It reached out one of its tentacles towards the newly created sky light.
“Get out of the way!”
Rose jumped, whilring around she was stunned to find herself feet from the Doctor and Ianto, both holding guns staring at the Dalek in shock. “Rose get out of the way, now!” He tried to order.
“No! 'Cause I won't let you do this!” She stated, angry at him for thinking she’d do anything but defend the poor creature.
“That thing killed hundreds of people,” Ianto offered, shaking in fear and adrenalin.
“It’s not the one pointing the guns at me.”
“I've got to do this. I've got to end it. The Daleks destroyed my home, my people. I've got nothing left.” The Doctor replied, his gun steady.
Ianto glanced over at the man; his eyes went back to Rose as she spoke. “Look at it.”
“What’s it doing?” Ianto questioned.
“It's the sunlight, that's all it wants!”
The Doctor shook his head. “But it can’t…” His voice shook slightly.
“It couldn't kill Van Statten - it couldn't kill me - it's changing. What about you, Doctor? What the hell are you changing into?”
And that was the moment, both Ianto and the Doctor lowered their guns. The Doctor looked lost, utterly desolate. “I couldn’t-I wasn’t-Oh Rose, they’re all dead.” He whispered, physically hurting at the loss of his people.
“Why do we survive?” The Dalek whispered.
“I don’t know.”
“I am the last of the Daleks,” The creature spoke; obviously it was becoming an effort to speak and move now.
“You're not even that. Rose did more than regenerate you. You absorbed her DNA. You're mutating.” The Doctor whispered.
“Into what?” Ianto asked softly.
“Something new.” The Doctor said shrugging. “I’m sorry.”
“Isn’t that better!?” Rose asked unsure what she was missing.
The Doctor shook his head, looking at Rose sorrowfully. “Not for a Dalek.”
“I can feel so many ideas. So much darkness... Rose... give me orders! Order me to die.”
Rose just looked at it, stunned, her eyes beginning to water slightly. “I-I can’t do that.” She whispered.
“This is not life. This is sickness!” Rose looked at it, sadness written all over her face as she looked back at Ianto and the Doctor. “I shall not be like you. Order my destruction! Obey! Obey! Obey! “
Ianto just watched horrified by what the creature was asking of someone so young. He watched Rose, and the Doctor, both seemed unsure of what to do.
“Do it.” She finally whispered.
“Are you frightened, Rose Tyler?”
“Yeah.” She managed.
“So Am I. Exterminate”
All eyes were on the Dalek as Rose stumbled back, barely missing some of the rubble, Ianto managed to grab her arm, gently pulling her back safely. The Dalek’s armor closed and it levitated in the air. The gold knobs separated from the rest of its body and with a giant glow, it imploded. All three just stood there in stunned silence.
The Doctor finally looked over at Rose, his eyes welling with tears as he dropped the gun and grabbed her. Hugging her for all she was worth. She wrapped her arms around him, holding on for dear life. Ianto watched, smiling sadly at the sight of the two-yes, the Doctor obviously loved Rose deeply. Sighing he put his own gun down. He wasn’t expecting Rose to throw her arms around him.
Rose pressed a kiss to his cheek. “Thanks.” She whispered.
Ianto chuckled as he wrapped his own arms around her for a moment. “You saved us all.” He whispered patting her back, not entirely sure what else to do.

Ianto stood in the office, the Doctor and Rose off to one side watching as a few remaining guards in red berets. Ianto looked at them, nodding to them. “Wipe his memory, here use this, it’s more than enough.”
“What are you doing!?” Van Statten demanded.
“Two hundred personnel dead, and all because of you. There’s no way you can justify that. UNIT will take you from here. I don’t frankly care what they do to you.”
“You can't do this to me! I am Henry van Statten!”
“Not anymore.”

The Doctor and Rose stood in front of the Tardis down in the bottom of the museum, nearby Ianto was looking at all the artifacts.
“Little piece of home. Better than nothing.” The Doctor whispered running his hands over her panels gently.
“Is that the end of it? The Time War?”
“I'm the only one left. I win. How about that.”
“The Dalek survived…maybe some of your people did too.”
He shook his head sadly. “I know. In here.” He whispered taping his temple. “Feels like no one’s there.”
“Well then, good thing I’m not going anywhere.”
“There’s so much more out there.” Ianto whispered, staring directly at the Cyberman head.
“Yes there is. Still want to come?” The Doctor asked.
Ianto looked at him and studied him seriously. “Thing is Doctor, I’ve seen this life of yours, for the briefest of moments. It’s not safe. Yet you take companions?”
“It’s an adventure.” Rose whispered as she walked over to Ianto, lacing her fingers through his. “It’s worth it, and as his companions we know the risks.” She explained looking into Ianto’s beautiful sea blue eyes.
“You’d risk anything.”
“Wouldn’t you?”
He nodded. “Absolutely anything to save this planet.”
“That’s why I do it.”
“What about people out there like Van Statten, don’t you ever get tired of them?”
The Doctor shrugged. “Course I do, but then I find people like Rose, an’ you. Who show me the brilliance and potential your planet has. It evens out.”
Rose gently gave Ianto’s hand a tug. “Come with us, give it a try, if you don’t like it, the Doctor can drop you off anywhere.”
Ianto smiled and nodded. “All right then. Inside that box?” His eye brows furrowed. He gaped as Rose led him inside, the door closing behind them and the Doctor moving to the consol. “Now this is impressive.”
