Oh, yeah, you can recycle those CFL's. Problem is many communities/municipalities don't have residential CFL recycling programs. Plus, the stores that are so eager to sell them won't take the bulbs back. Also, lazy people prefer to just put them in the trash rather than taking the time out to take them to the recycling center that do recycle them. To find out where (in US) are the centers that accept CFL's for recycling, you either contact the sanitation department(or the local Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site) to find out if recycling CFLs is an option in your area or you go to www.epa.gove/blubrecycling to find recyclers. Ikea also sells and collects used CFL's for recycling, but they don't sell Energy Star bulbs. The company Sylvania has a mail-in program, but it's pricey.
