I never met Mr. Root. I doubt we would have had much in common; for all my webcomic pretentions I remain, fundamentally, an outsider to the culture. But I still can't help but feel the loss, here.
I just listened to that whole thing yesterday. It was really great to hear Rory's voice. Man, that dude was a fountain of knowledge. It was a great combo -- Rory knowing everything about the business side and Scott knowing everything about the creative side. And it was like watching a circus trick the way he would plug his store so seemlessly while dropping knowledge! XD Good 'ol Rory... Gonna miss that guy.
What was really great about the Commonwealth Club thing is that A) the only reason they let me within a mile of the place was that Rory specifically asked for me as moderator and B) the only reason that they let Rory within a mile of the place is that he convinced them that he'd be the best possible spokesman for the comics industry.
I'm so glad that he used his powers for good and not evil.
