I get the impression that Grandma is a comfortably dotty older lady who would just smile pleasedly-but-absently at the fact that her grandson wrote her a letter, ignoring the strikeouts and bloodstains outright, and then take the whole thing to her bridge club to show them.

It seems to make more sense for the sidekick characters to have absent-minded/oblivious grandparents as their guardians than parents, I think.

My mom asked too many questions about my activities when I was younger, and my dad knew he'd catch flak from my mom if he let me go off to the North Pole with my friends, but my grandparents would just smile and say, "that's nice, dear."
