I'm kind of the opposite of the person in that discussion. I believe (most of the time) that it's objectively true that God exists, but I don't feel or experience him (unlike most of my Christian friends).

I think it's evident that some people experience a perception of God and some don't. This is consistent with both theism and atheism: if God exists, those who don't perceive him have a perceptual deficiency, like blindness or deafness, whereas if he doesn't exist, those who do perceive him are experiencing something like pareidolia. Most people who perceive God are theists and most who don't are atheists, but there are exceptions both ways round.
