in re Churchill; perhaps because those "few bombastic speeches" were in a very real way responsible for the resistance that lead to the defeat of Hitler. Would the author prefer Hitler, who, after all, never did anything to the Indians or Himmler who actually thought of them as "fellow Aryans"? Why does the author protest his Nobel Prize for literature? If you read Churchill, you find one of the finest users of the English language ever.

Does Churchill need to answer for his crimes? Undoubtedly so, but those have to be balanced with the rest of his legacy.
