This is topical for us atm, as we're on holiday in France and Alex had to spend the first day watching the rest of us from the poolside until he could buy some regulation acceptable swimwear.
It seems especially silly in a campsite a short walk from the beach. If the rationale is to avoid getting sand in the pool - whether someone's wearing Bermuda shorts, Speedos or a bikini, they could have just come from sunbathing on the beach.
(In related news, the south of France doesn't seem to have got the gluten memo yet. The buckwheat galettes are partly made with wheat flour, so I haven't tried any.)
