"Let White People Appropriate Mexican Food-Mexicans Do It to Ourselves All the Time"

Well, this was an unexpected bit of racism. Jesus. That article is so racist, I'm not quite sure where to start. I almost didn't make it the whole way through. Just wow.

So ok. For example, being Mexican is a nationality and not a race. If you keep that fact firmly in your mind, it's impossible to read this without think "Hey this guy is kinda racist"

I didn't particularly see any kind of xenophobia in the article. I read it fairly casually, though, and I am a cis white European male; then again, the author of the article has a name that looks hispanic, and the crux of the article, as I understood it, was "restaurant people rip off food trends all the time". What did I miss?

Hey! Thanks for the comment. Let me explain my POV a little bit. I do not think xenophobia and racism are the same thing. Gustavo consistently treats being mexican as some sort of racial equivalent to being white. There are a lot of white mexicans in this world. And, there are a lot of people who aren't Mexicans, who want to cook Mexican food, who also aren't white. Mexican food is an array of different types of cuisines. etc. I know this guy meant no malice. So, perhaps saying "racially chauvinist" is a better way to put it.

( I could probably go into significantly more detail. I do not feel like it. please don't make me.)

It just feels like an extreme reaction to say "That article is so racist, I'm not quite sure where to start", when the only sin the author appears to have committed is to say "white people" rather than "non-Mexicans". (And arguably "white people" is a reasonable shorthand for "people from outside the Mexican culinary tradition", especially in the US.)
