Labour seem somehow surprised that a snap election has been called at a point when they don't seem to be functioning as an opposition? Did they assume the Conservatives would politely wait until they were a more credible political force?

If they actually were genuinely surprised and not prepared for this, perhaps a reason is that their leadership is not, in fact, a functioning opposition party.
