Anyone know what's going on with this new practice of linking to imgur images of text content instead of the original? I've suddenly started seeing an explosion of it literally in the last week or two. (I assume andrewducker's posting it this way because that's the format he received it in...)

I assume it's a sister trope to the thing where you share the same image over and over again, each time introducing more JPG artefacts. It's easy and there are no social forces to say "no, stop doing that, share the original".

Normally I frown on the practice, but when the original has an autoplaying video ad for non-subscribers I begin to think it's the lesser evil.

-- Steve doesn't want to install an ad-blocker; sites need to pay the rent too. But pop-overs & auto-streaming make that decision harder to stick to.

Ah, that makes perfect sense - I do have an adblocker so wouldn't have noticed if the original was too problematic to read.
