With respect to Olympic and other sports venues, my city actually managed to host the Pan Am games successfully. Much to my surprise, I must admit. The sports venues were designed from the start to be a new city neighborhood, and were not built just for the main event. Instead of converting an Olympic stadium to other uses, they built a community centre temporarily purposed as a sports stadium; instead of building dorms for athletes, they built condominiums, but held off on the final finishes while temporarily housing athletes.
