Dunno whether she understands Nabokov or not, but the first couple of sentences make it clear she doesn't understand Austen.

She doesn't understand Nabokov either. In some ways the creepiest thing about Lolita is the way that he makes the reader identify with Humbert Humbert and see the story through his eyes. The reader gets groomed by him and his self justifications and you have to keep reminding yourself what a monster he is, and how horrific Lolita's life is to bring yourself back to reality.

Not an easy read.
