Oh yes, good point! I'd heard the "elves think of us like we think of animals" comparison before, but I hadn't thought about it from the other side, that's persuasive.

I'd heard the one about pets seeing us as elves because we're practically immortal compared to them, but this is more detailed.

I have no personal experience to back this up, but I've heard anecdotally that should you have money to be going to moderate but not extremely high end retailers (bespoke suits, but not all the way to Savile Row, and similarly posh underwear shops) then as long as you're not being weird about it, your gender and the intended gender of the wearer of what you're buying is essentially not a concern and you'll get good service and properly fitted or tailored items. At proper high end retailers, this is probably even more true.

I've bought clothes as presents for my wife, and not at particularly high-end retailers either, and nobody batted an eye. (And she's bought clothes for me, with probably even less of one, but I wasn't there.)

I didn't mean just shopping in those retailers, but getting fittings and (where appropriate) clothes tailored to you where traditionally they'd be worn by the other gender.

I have a copy of a "2001" script that seems to reflect Clarke's vision for the movie. I'd be happy to email you the pdf if you give me an address.

My personal "best" was the console for an aged IBM mainframe. The stacker the read cards went to was wonky and occasionally would reverse the order of two cards.
You could put a deck of JCL in, run it through, take the deck of JCL from the out and put them back into the in and BLOOIE.

That's a special kind of wonky!

Traveling in Southeast Asia I developed a Leprechaun Model of Tourism.
A Tourist is an inexplicable humanoid. It has great wealth, great powers, a strange mix of great knowledge and infantile ignorance, and inscrutable motivations and desires. But if you are attentive, watch closely and responsively, and never blink, you might be able to get some of the gold.
