I didn't think after their last crackdown on 'extreme' porn which made pretty much anything but missionary-with-condom illegal in the UK, that there were any uk based porn sites still in operation.
I don't think they mean companies or websites that are physically based in the UK. They are talking about blocking access to any website any site worldwide that refuses to comply.
This makes sense - after all we all know it is impossible to access any of the torrent sites the UK government currently blocks.
Interestingly the article is wrong about the porn verification system sorting by income.
I just learned this today because the company I'm working for this week is the one trying to sell the system. (Who knew?) and today I'm writing the web pages describing the system.
How it would work is you hold up your identity document to your webcam. It then scans databases to make sure it's real and not forged. Then you look at your webcam and it scans your facial features to make sure that you look like the person who the ID belongs to (i.e. you didn't grab dad's ID.)
At that point it lets you in if you are of age.
Still terrifying but they don't have the tech to go farther than that.
