Government wants Brexit 'national consensus' drdoug September 7 2016, 11:16:34 UTC
I would be happy if the implementation of Brexit is deferred until national consensus on the matter is achieved.

Agreed!

I think such a statement is a real dream on.

I'll NEVER be convinced that Brexit is anything more than total lunacy and I know I'm not the only one!

Is the general plan to simply delay Brexit until they are all out of office and then make an eventual Labor PM be the one to say "Nope, fuck the referendum."

Yes - that is probably the plan.

At least I think May's plan is to make the Three Brexiteers do all the work. If it looks great, she swops in and takes all the credit. If it looks either rubbish or unpopular she says Johnson, Fox and Davies gave it their best shot but failed so it's a no go.

Also they are playing a dangerous game time wise with Brexit.

French elections are next spring. If Sarko wins and Article 50 is then invoked he'll make things uncomfortable for UK people living here. If Le Pen wins she's be absolutely nasty to UK people living here.

Ye-es, but precisely because French elections are next Spring, you're not going to get any firm decisions out of Hollande before then, and certainly not ones that he thinks might hurt him in the polls. Any decision he did make beforehand can be changed by whoever does win - including him. Only the utterly disconnected-from-reality Brexiteers think it would be remotely possible to have a deal signed and inked before then. Same calculus for Germany with their elections next Autumn. Starting the hard Article 50 clock now would gain you almost nothing in negotiating terms and would be running the clock down with no real prospect of progress until late next year ( ... )

The YA Not-Hugo should not be named after Heinlein cartesiandaemon September 7 2016, 11:42:28 UTC
God, no. Heinlein wrote a bunch of awesome stuff, but if we're naming after a person, can we pick someone a bit more recent and a bit more progressive, ideally someone people under thirty might be excited about? It is tricky if you want to avoid living authors, but it doesn't *have* to be named after an author.
