Corbyn has received over £1.5 million from the taxpayer sounds like some sort of scandal that would get the blood boiling. The fact it was earned over a 40 year period is merely an afterthought.

That Telegraph article shows how much you can twist any story to enrage readers who won't bother to think about the facts involved.

I know, it's just awful.

Torygraph has sunk as low as the Daily Fail with this one.

I remember being shocked that people criticised Hillary Clinton for "wearing suits" and Barrack Obama for "being a good orator". Like... what kind of politicians did you expect? Have you seen the OTHER politicians? I've also seen "shock, dated someone". But "having a salary"...?

I used to sanguinely assume octopuses couldn't move over land...

Octopus are incredibly intelligent. There are a number of videos of octopus coming out of the sea to hunt crabs on land. My favourite octopus story was from Germany where an octopus in an aquarium took a dislike to the lights being left on at night. It figured out how to turn them off by squirting water at the light switches which then tripped the fuses in the lighting circuits.

As far as I can see almost the entirety of the current "campus censorship" debate is complete media-driven nonsense ( ... )

It's become a favourite tactic for, mostly people on the right, or folks like Julie Bindel or Germaine Greer, to claim they've been banned from speaking at a campus, when as you say, actually they haven't. It just fits their playing of the victim card better to say they've been banned.

There might have been protests, there might have been a small crowd of people outside the door to say 'Down with this sort of thing', or a petition against them being allowed a platform, but I can't think of any/many that have been outright banned.

Exactly this -- "Yet again freedom of speech has been called into question by my (mumble mumble mumble)" "Sorry?" "being allowed to speak at an event despite people thinking my views are horrible."

That Men's rights dickbag who wanted to come and give seminars on how to 'date' women. He was denied a visa in the end wasn't he?

So he was censored I suppose.

And around 300 Muslim preachers have been denied access to the UK too, on the grounds of promoting hate speech.

Or very, very simple: don't let people put content on your site ;)
