I remember seeing a cookery program years ago in China where the chef cut up this huge block of MSG and put it in the wok. And I thought ye gods, I thought that was evilbadwrong! But I looked it up and read that it's a very natural cooking ingredient.

Heh, and yeah, why should Valve risk spending all that money on HL3, when they're raking it in from Steam. Much better return on their investment.

Shame though. They should never have finished HL2:ep2 on such a cliffhanger, knowing that they were never likely to finish it.

Well, MSG (I still keep reading it as Madison Square Garden) is still an excitotoxin and something I'd rather avoid.

I'll be less likely to ask at restaurants whether the food contains it, but it's better to know than not know.

They need to just let someone else do half life 3. If they can make a star wars 7, they can make a half life 3.

I don't know why but the Japanese train station story made me tear up.

The thought of a society caring that much about individuals that it goes to great expense to make infrastructure work for all of them?

Yes, but it goes deeper into the background of not only caring (which is a big part given the news cycles keep telling us how horrible we humans can be to each other), but connectedness and the effect of an aging population which those in our generation will have to address.

The drink story is flabbergasting, and just scary really.

I've actually never had the nerve to ask a woman I don't know if I can buy her a drink. But if I ever had, a response of a soft drink or food would have been just fine. Thinking about it, food takes longer to prepare than a drink (unless it's crisps I suppose). So you get longer to talk to her while you're waiting around for it to arrive.

Me either.

But yes, if I offered to buy a woman a drink and she said "How about some food?" then my reaction would be "Yay! She's gonna chat for more then three minutes!"
