Paws (pun intended!) to note that all but one of our cats have been 'rescues' of one kind or another (including two we took on when the owners decided to emigrate and 'couldn't' take the cats with them.

Yeah. I think I'd rather have a rescue pet, where possible.

(Sadly nearly all the dogs I see in rescue places are marked as "not suitable for children")

I don't disagree with him, but we do that already -- breeds of cat and dog that couldn't survive in the wild, for instance, because they're too small or big or too covered in hair, or who have genetic defects due to inbreeding.

Yup, totally. I'm not convinced that this is entirely worse than what we already do.

(Mind you, that's another reason I'd rather actually have a mutt.)
