Here's my question. Rupert Grint has an estimated net worth of $50 million and still gets "points" from all of the Harry Potter films and any merchandise that bears his character's image.

What the fuck does he need to be doing these rip off photo ops for?

I understand David Prowse doing it - since he got completely fucked by Lucas - and Billy Dee Williams never made a ton of money either. But Grint? WTF?

Good question.

Maybe he's spent it all already :->

I also find it odd that Never Cambell gets more than Gillian Anderson.

OK. Googling around it looks like Grint has never been at a convention before and was there to help out Felton. So he may have just n ot had any idea what to expect and not realized how exploitative it would be.

Makes sense. He probably gets bored sometimes, and helping out old friends probably sounds fun.

Yep. And he probably didn't know that he should put his foot down and demand some interaction or fans are going to be pissed.

I personally wouldn't nominate *all* of Discworld for next year's Hugo novel:
- It's not like Wheel of Time which could have been argued to be a single narrative.
- Sir Pterry had declined a nomination in the past.
- If it made the final list, I'd have to (re)read them all (within the voting window) *and* compare 41 books vs the other singleton finalists. How is that fair or possible?

Pterry had a thing about fairness, and I don't think he approve.

We should honour him but I don't think this is the way to do so.
Also, something about honouring a person while they still live...

1. As torrain put it: "t, I submit that the Discworld as a whole is a single work, but its unity lies in the building (and changing) of the world, seen by many characters, rather than a primary and unifying narrative arc ( ... )

Just the Tiffany Aching books, perhaps?

Why not just "The Shepherd's Crown" if you think it Hugo-worthy?

Much as I love the Tiffany Aching stories, I don't think it's a single narrative broken into parts in the same way Wheel of Time (or Lord of the Rings) was.

I don't think edge-cases make for good practice; Wheel of Time was an edge-case. I can understand that fans wanted to honor something/someone they love, especially given that Robert Jordan had died. But I don't think that was the way to go. Though if enough people nominate & The Discworld is a finalist, I would not vote it below No Award.
