That microsoft thing would be much more useful if there were a decent number of people with Windows phones.

It would be.

Fascinating to watch people on techie sites complain about it lowering security by making it easier to share passwords.

They haven't even mentioned "act of god" yet! :) But also, I want to read a story about someone suing Malekith :)

But - but - we already know what the Scooby Doo gang would have looked like in the '60s, because of what they actually did look like in the '60s!

Good grief, the record companies STILL haven't learnt that if you rip off your consumers, your consumers will feel entirely justified in ripping them off in return?!

Sigh.

This Amazon plan is interesting. I wonder if it opens the door to consumers only paying by the page consumed. Would be interesting to see statistics on how many books people start reading on Amazon, and stop after a few pages.

Probably quite high. I've picked up a lot of the free offerings on Amazon over the years, and never gotten more than 20 pages into any of them, because they were all terrible.

I'm sure I read somewhere that page tracking showed most users didn't read more than 1/3 of the first Fifty Shades book.

I wholeheartedly approve of any plan whereby that woman gets less money.

It is not uncommon for me to buy an Amazon book while not at home, read a bit on the Kindle app, then convert to ePub (when I have access to Calibre) and finish in Moon+ Reader.
I'd completely stop buying from them if 'purchases' were paid for to authors by the page read.

Reading all those turgid Song of Ice and Fire books have now become somewhat worth it for those Peanuts strips. (Woodstock at Hodor! OMG)
