I think 4) the poorly attended fringe festival show might actually be a romantic date

I think it would really depend on the show and the date. I saw some real dogs but they would have been a lot of fun with my husband thanks to our shared language of mockery. Not so fun with someone I didn't know well though.

and there are some charming but poorly attended shows - the quality of the show or the experience isn't always related that well to the success of the marketing.

My Lovely Wife and I used to take a day off during the Festival and walk round Edinburgh seeing things at random. A very happy date for us.

If Hamlet and Othello switched protagonists, Hamlet would have seen through Iago, Othello would have killed Claudius, and you could do them both in half an hour.

There's an excellent stage show in there somewhere...

I'd like to see Romeo swapped with Falstaff.

That would be a bit "have some Madeira m'dear" - drunken old sot seduces teenager...

I can see the tram inching its way down towards the coast as little bits of money and development happen.

It's finding areas of decent population density that can be incrementally added. A loop out through Portobello and Musselburgh and back through Craigmillar, past the Royal Infirmary, and then northwards to Leith Walk again would be great in some ways - but I'd want hard research telling me that the figures added up.

The new Waverley line comes in to Edinburgh somewhere out there - and there was talk of building a new town too.

I like the tram and I'd love it to succeed, but like you, I want to see some robust numbers before we spend money on it.

Borders Railway is going through Brustane, Newcraighall, and then to Shawfair, which is the new town they're building:

And that might be enough transport out to that side of things. We'll have to see how successful it is!

(Shame I ruined it.)
