Canned food is great! So is food in jars, for that matter. A tin of canned tomatoes that were canned somewhere in Italy is far nicer than polytunnel ones grown here, and I like to think that canned food gets shipped in lower-carbon forms of transport, since it has a hugely longer shelf life.

Same goes for olives. And artichoke hearts. And beans. And tuna.

Yup - I also know the person behind it, and agree with them on a fair number of things (if not always). We've agreed, disagreed, argued, disagreed, and agreed again repeatedly since they were on LJ back in ye olden days :->

Oh yes.

Much though I'd rather be right all the time, sometimes I'm not, and having people put me right is handy :->

Food fads often seem to me as ways for well-off people to feel better about themselves for being privileged.

It's the food equivalent of someone well-off wearing expensive designer clothing that's been made to look like what used to be traditional working class clothes (I dunno, a designer flat cap or donkey jacket) or putting on a mockney accent.

I think a lot of it comes from boredom, dissatisfaction, and craving something new to deal with both of those things.

And if you feel like something is wrong, then it is easier (if you have money) to try fix it with a food that gives you more satisfaction/peace of mind about your lifestyle than fixing yourself.

Sorry - I figured that people wouldn't read a GoT post without being up to date!

Something I've wondered about-- it seems to me that it's not exactly that women in GoT are at too much risk of rape, it's that they are at too little risk of non-rape injuries. Is this reasonable?

I liked the food piece somewhat, but I would have liked to have seen a little more emphasis on how different modern paleo is from how people lived in the real patheolithic, and a mention of frozen veggies being pretty good, much cheaper, and less likely to be wasted, and more convenient than veggies from the farmer's market.

Yup, seems reasonable to me. Also, more men should be at risk of rape, to be honest.

And have a preview for tomorrow:
