The Black Widow thing isn't actually a surprise or even news, as Disney (not Marvel) are in charge of marketing and they have a policy of only marketing Disney Princesses because they sell extremely well and they reckon that sews up the girl market and leaves everything else for the lads. And the boys, of course, are not interested in women in cat suits. No, sir.

Yeah. My issues with George Lucas isn't the fundamental stuff he had going on in the background (and it's clear that he intended a lot of what's in that post) - but that the way he got it across was clumsy, and surrounded by a bunch of really bad writing and deliberately wooden acting.

Although the practice of leaving lots of things implicit and partial, so that your readers can fill in the blanks is clearly on that both the fanfic and expanded-universe people liked a lot!

The thing is the Jedi have always been complete and total dicks from Day One. They are a bunch of violent manipulative liars who essentially undermine democracy and secretly rule the galaxy simply by making people terrified of them.

The six star wars films are essentially the story of how they decided to manipulate and lie to the Skywalker family in general.
