In 1869, the city of Chicago built a new civic water system. Next to the pumping station there was a 140-foot tall standpipe to maintain a head of pressure in the system. Given the times, it was enclosed in "a castellated monstrosity with pepper boxes stuck all over it" (Oscar Wilde).
But it was a rare survivor of the fire, two years later, and is sort of a civic mascot or something. It is also the inspiration for the design of White Castle hamburger stands.

That's actually pretty awesome looking. It's a shame that almost no modern buildings are that decorative.

Why wait so late to teach about consent? In Ontario, renowned for its outdated curriculum, we'll be teaching it to six-year-olds.
