All of the children should have been made to order something healthy- not just those on free school meals.

Yes, quite. The school's response, at least, suggests that it isn't actually possible for a student to order only sweets without being called on it. So this woman's problem seems mainly to be that she can't identify the kids who are on assistance, and I'm doubtful that she's actually seen a lot of cases where those kids in particular are eating non-nutritious food. It's not the first time I've heard about people feeling entitled to comment and criticize the shopping choices of people on welfare, even for non-scandalous choices.

Well, yes.

I have no problem with basic food quality standards. I object to them only applying to the poor kids.

Yes. I mean, I think there's an argument to be made that it's more important to ensure that they're applied to the poor kids, because poverty makes it much harder to ensure that they're getting a balanced diet outside of school, but as far as I can tell from the quotations this woman's argument was pretty much "taxpayers money therefore I should be able to take away their autonomy blahblahblah"

Why not simply force the kids to eat healthy food no matter how their lunch is funded?

Ah, I see that point's already been made further up :)

Well, healthy-ish. I think that having nice, not horribly unhealthy, food is reasonable.

And yes, it should be the same for everyone.
