That toxoplasma-meme post was really interesting. Trying to get my head around it.

And it explained how tumblr works, which I didn't know before.

Did we not have that discussion recently?

No. We had a conversation where I said I didn't get the way tumblr threaded comments, and you said it was familiar to you after years on uunet chatrooms (or something like that).

But I didn't realise the only way to comment was to repost. Which seems a bit rubbish.

There's a serious problem with the toxoplasma article, which is the claim that nobody is actually in favor of factory-farming or rape. That's not true, because if it were true, there would be no factory-farming or rape. One might suspect it would be truer to say that nobody is willing to defend these things in public, but then all you need do is look at toxic comment sections.

The smartphone chart might be useful for someone already familiar with smartphones who's planning to buy a new one right now. It'll rapidly get outdated unless it's updated. But it also has lots of stuff that's meaningless to anyone who doesn't already know about the phones already. It's my understanding that there's a huge culture war over this smartphone OS vs. that one (Android, and what are the others? I forget), similar to the one between Windows and Mac. I've used both Windows and Mac so I know the difference, but I'm completely clueless as to the content difference between any smartphone OS and another.

If you're not interested in Smartphones then you probably don't need to educate yourself about them. It's a useful chart for people who know what their criteria are. Everyone else should probably find a techie and ask them :-)

That's what I said in the first sentence of my paragraph. I just went on to note that it's not a beginner's tool.

I might like such a tool, but it'll be difficult to find one useful for me. For instance, that review you link to praises the "slick interface." Knowing what passes for slick interfaces with computers, that's a warning bell for me.

That's because nobody is making phones with keyboards any more.

Last major one, so far as I can tell, was in 2012.
