The Tolkien thing is not only very clever, it's also extremely learned. The "real names" for the hobbit characters actually come mostly from deep in the posthumously-published material, where most people don't know it's there, plus a little equally deeply buried in the LOTR appendices.

It didn't seem like very many of the commenters were actually taken in by it. Most were just applauding the good lines. The worst comment was from the guy pitching his own book on Tolkien, which he had legal problems over. The reason that's a bad comment is that I have that book, and it's a dreadful piece of crap, just awful.
