Common Core pisses parents off because it means they can't help their children with their homework and that makes them feel dumb.

To be honest, if I had a third grade child and could not figure out their math homework I'd probably get annoyed too.

Regular math always makes me feel dumb, so I haven't even looked into Common core. My 13 year old niece can already do more math than I can. But yeah, I think a lot of it is parental frustration at having to learn new things, which is both understandable and at the same time, pretty sad, too.

And oh god, articles like the college girl one always makes me soooo happy I never went to a traditional college. I would not have done well in an environment like that. Those poor women!

I understand it's hard for people to leap in and expect to understand their children's homework when it's changed since they were kids.

But frankly a lot of people are just dicks about anything that changes in education.

The article about 'Common Core Math' says that 'we' (Americans?) probably cannot explain the usual algorithm behind the subtraction of 12 from 32.

Is this really so? I do not know much about average Americans, but they seem to be quite capable of tying their shoelaces and that task is much harder.
