At the opposite end of the spectrum from "Shadow of Mordor", I've had a happy few hours being extremely silly with Goat Simulator, which is a completely stupid game.
I'm slightly in awe of being part of a civilisation that has made massive technological developments in computing technology - hardware, software, design - and can afford to squander all that hopelessly on a daft non-game where you control a simulated goat that smashes in to things.
A game, you'll note, that has something in common with Shadows of Mordor - it gives you a bunch of stuff and lets you decide how to make it fit together. Albeit with much less structure and no defined endpoint :->
