Kids names - I find it so weird that among women who have not changed their name it is so common to give the baby the father's last name.

If I have a baby (very unlikely) I have decided that it should be Child Fen... (but of course since I don't intend to have a baby I don't have to put up with all the shit from parents etc. about it).

Her story was odd. It felt to me like she was fishing for criticism. Like when people asked about possible names at four months gestation and she replied with last names, soliciting comments, it seems to me.

No one in my experience cares. They may have opinions on whether they would name their own child that way, but any comments they made to her feel like she trumped them up dramatically. I got the impression she counted "oh, how unusual" as the patriarchy oppressing her.

Was quite an odd article. I got the impression that nobody was that bothered even though she was barely stopping short of saying "we are being unorthodox, please comment". Must admit there are occasions where I don't know what my friends have done vis-a-vis baby surnames (that is they've told me and I've forgotten) -- there's a few strategies from his, hers, double-barrel and new/amalgamation and I can never remember who did what.

Yup, about the only thing it really highlighted was women saying "My partner would never let me away with that!"- other than that people seemed occasionally surprised, but generally totally supportive.

Another nail in the coffin of our so-called 'democracy'.

Absolutely shameful. Also the way they did it on the day of the cabinet reshuffle too, so the media was all distracted by that.

Not that the media seems to care, mostly. Or many people, for that matter.

I can only assume it's because the general public have bought the 'Because Pedophiles' story, hook line and sinker.

Without realising that it's exactly the same thing as 'Because Jews'.

There is a _small_ difference between paedophiles and Jews...

Let's hope our technology has evolved beyond power lines and silicon chips before the next pole flip.

While there is nothing wrong with giving a child her mother's surname, I do worry about christening a child "End User Licence Agreement"...

If Marvel wants to attract a female audience with the new Thor, then they probably shouldn't have given her superhero pneumatic tits.

We are at a weird moment in comic book history where Archie is more progressive than anything DC or Marvel are putting out.
