The pain and sex thing is weird. All week I've been dealing with super bad back pain and waiting until I can see my osetopath to get a tune up. Now, the idea of actually having sex is horrible - because, shit, just walking to the store is horrible and I can't imagine the pain that would happen if I moved my back in sexual ways. Hell even girl on top wouldn't work. My cat tried to sit on my chest while I was sleeping last night and even that small amount of weight on my body made me scream.

On the other hand, I'm super horny - and I seem to be always super horny when I'm either in pain or hungover - so if you measured my brain waves you might think I want sex, when, honestly, no my dick is just being an unrealistic idiot. (What's probably happening is my brain knows that an orgasm would temporarily send chemicals to my brain that would kill the pain for two minutes or so.)

I don't think the pain in this case was something that sex would make worse - it was just being in static pain.

Although male mice might just be unstoppably horny.

The pain and sex article is bloody depressing, is what it is. A bunch of researchers have deliberately inflicted pain on a load of mice, and it tells us very nearly nothing about human sexuality. Hell, I'm not sure it tells us very much about mouse sexuality, but that's not a field I know much about. But you can see how poor a model murine horniness is from the aside near the end of that writeup where they mention that a known mouse aphrodisiac doesn't work in people. Duh ( ... )

Did you read the conversation thread under the comic? Because that was what explained the cultural context.

Yeah, the quotes to quotes to quotes thing can be annoying. Sometimes it can capture a really interesting distributed conversation though.
