Vegetarians are less healthy and have a lower quality of life than meat-eaters cartesiandaemon April 4 2014, 11:19:17 UTC
This is why it's important to be careful when claiming everything you like is more natural or healthier, because if it's later found out that it isn't, it sort of undermines your position, even if your real reasons were something else...

(FWIW, I agree with all of that.)

Also, it's a study on Austrian vegetarians. Who's the most famous Austrian vegetarian? (OK, OK, technically Hitler probably wasn't vegetarian.)

More seriously, the fact that it's only on one country probably has an effect. And what I remember of trips to Germany is pretty awful vegetarian options - I suspect Austria's not much better.

It's also possible that people with health problems are more likely to become vegetarians in an attempt to deal with those health problems.

Yes, the Adsense / mobile thing is a HUGE problem. A lot of people I know got extremely upset when Google announced they'd be rolling mobile and non-mobile advertising together, and for good reason.

I don't think it will last long. Companies are going to start bidding a lot less for keywords when they see the ROI going down. People paying $1,000 per click for the word "lawyer" are not going to do so for very long.

It has already persisted for a few months, but I agree, it's going down at some point. If people are starting to get to the point of using hacks like the one listed to block mobile traffic, Google would be very foolish indeed not to listen.

Tattoos give me the heebie-jeebies.

The thought of ever having one, or even touching someone else’s makes my skin crawl.

Even thinking about them makes me feel uncomfortable.

There used to be a tattoo parlour on the ground floor of the tenement I live in - the noise of the needle humming like a dentist's drill when you walked past the door was enough to confirm to me that I am never getting one!

Oh that independence write up is great, thanks for pointing it out.

I actually did my 'we are not electing Alex Salmond for life' rant in the office yesterday* because I got so annoyed by the continuous jokes about us having Alex Salmond time and national holidays if we get independence.

*I've mostly avoided discussing politics in the office because I get the distinct impression that I'm the only-pro in the room** and my Boss (who is American) has ranted at length on one occasion about what a 'silly' idea he thinks it is.
**Not that this has gone unnoticed among the people who aren't totally oblivious to everything anyway.

I am delighted by the idea of Americans For The UK.

But then I like Canadians.

*chortle*

To be fair, I think he may just be anti Nation states in general. He's been here for donkey's years without naturalising despite the fact he gets harrassed by immigration every time he goes to the States, which is a lot, because they hate the fact that he chooses to live and work abroad!

It still amazes me that people don't believe in bisexuality.

I wonder if it is because, as Andy linked to the other week, some people believe everyone is gay.

It's because for a long time the majority of people who in college say they are bisexual end up with men. And people take note of that. What they don't realize is that the majority of people who end up coming out as bi when they are older and more sexually mature end up with either/or.

My comment was rather tongue-in-cheek, I should probably have added a winking smilie at the end.

I don't know about your second point, the majority of bi women I know who realised late ended up with men, but that is of course, merely anecdotal.
