A while back someone I know in the Army was doing his qualifying parachute jumps before joining 3 Para. It was about the time the Iraq war was about to kick off and all the good-condition Hercules aircraft the RAF possessed were staging out to RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus in preparation. This left the jump qualifications to be flown on the back-of-the-hangar planes that were a bit ropey, to say the least. As my friend said later, it was a good thing everyone on board had parachutes (two of his scheduled jumps were cancelled when the plane had to return to the airfield because of engineering problems).
