The Scottish parliament seems to operate in a much more sensible way than Westminster. I'm sure it's not perfect, but it does highlight how much Westminster needs to be reformed.

I am aghast every time I hear about how Westminster operates. It really is appalling how they behave.

Re: This time the Taliban Have Gone Too Far! (and we still miss our subject lines LJ)

Maybe I'm a horrible person, but I really feel bad when I see pictures of distressed dogs, more so than when I see pictures of distressed humans.

And the Taliban are not known for their great love of dogs. Poor little guy :(

I think it's the 'innocence' thing - I think people generally believe that humans have some influence over their circumstances and therefore might at some level 'deserve' their suffering, whereas people generally believe that animals are less capable of influence over their circumstances and therefore never / much more rarely 'deserve' suffering.

"But Sir, you can't portmanteau 'Rate Gate' and '-gate'. 'Rate Gate' already has a 'gate' in!"
"Damn it, Mr. Timpson, you just verbed portmanteau, I can do anything I like. Full power to the grammatical neologism engine! Flank language evolution speed!"
